Pharmaceutical giant to support Trust’s big night

AstraZeneca is to be the headline sponsors of the Cambridge United Community Trust gala dinner in May.

The event, on Friday, May 12, is being held in a marquee at the Cambs Glass Stadium and will see Cambridge United Community Trust present its vision for developing the club’s community engagement, enhance existing programmes and develop new initiatives.

The evening will also include the presentations for the Cambridge United Sport in the Community Awards, which are being run in partnership with the Cambridge Independent.

AstraZeneca has been working with Cambridge United Community Trust since November 2015, partnering to develop and support the Active Science project, which is delivered in a number of primary schools.

Every penny raised at the gala dinner will be donated to charitable projects within Cambridge and the surrounding areas.

Jenny Horsfield, the global transaction director at AstraZeneca and board member of Cambridge United Community Trust, said: “AstraZeneca is delighted to be sponsoring the gala dinner.

“We have been pleased with our Active Science collaboration and are impressed with the great work the trust does within the extended community to promote health, education and wellbeing.

“This very much aligns with AstraZeneca’s goals to support the work done in schools and colleges to spark an interest in science.

“AstraZeneca, together with its global biologics R&D arm MedImmune, plays an active part in mentoring science students in Cambridge who have the potential to discover life-changing medicines in the future and contribute to the future of healthcare.”

The Sport in the Community Awards are nominated each month through a partnership with the Cambridge Independent, and the University of Cambridge’s Judge Business School have already committed to sponsoring one of the awards.

A full list of categories, along with all the companies supporting them, will be released in the coming weeks.

Cambridge United Community Trust chief executive Ben Szreter said: “The trust’s gala dinner will be a great opportunity for local businesses to socialise whilst supporting Cambridge United’s work within the community.

“The evening will help support our projects throughout Cambridgeshire and help businesses connect with each other as well as their community.

“We look forward to welcoming a range of businesses to Cambridge United and celebrating all of our joint commitment to improving the lives of people within our local area.”
