Learn PR secrets from Spirus Marketing

If you’ve ever wondered what it takes to get your story on the front page of the newspaper, Spirus Marketing’s Alex Spencer will reveal the secret at the Two Counties Business Exhibition in her seminar, running from 12.50-1.25pm.

Alex was a newspaper and magazine journalist in London before moving to the Burwell marketing agency, where she is PR and content consultant. She worked for South London Press, Now and Woman’s Own magazine before becoming features editor of Sunday People’s television magazine.

The seminars

10.45-11.35am: Google Digital Garage - Build a Digital Marketing Plan

12.50-1.25pm: Spirus Marketing - How to find PR stories that get great coverage

1.30–2.20pm: Google Digital Garage - Social Media Strategy

2.30-3.15pm: iMET - working with business to develop the skills for the future

She said: “There are seven rules of news and I’m going to tell people what they are and how to use them. The more rules that you hit the more coverage you will get. You can look at a front page story and see exactly what put that story there. A lot of my work is helping people to find the story within their business. The reason your press release probably doesn’t work is because you do not have a good enough story. You need an extra piece to make it interesting, so I’m going to talk about finding your story.

“It’s something that people can struggle with if you are close to your business. What’s interesting to you might not be relatable to others.”

Skills for the future

Another seminar at the event will be delivered by iMET and is called ‘Working with business to develop the skills for the future’.

Visit the stands

There will be a wide array of stands to browse at the Two Counties Business Exhibition.

Among those exhibiting will be the main sponsor, Urban & Civic, which is bringing forward 5,370 acres of land, mostly within 100 miles of London.

Its projects in Cambridgeshire include Alconbury Weald, where 5,000 new homes are being built on a former Cold War airfield – along with an enterprise zone with three million sq ft of business space – and the strategic settlement scheme at the former barracks in Waterbeach.
