New hotel will have 80-bedrooms

Cambourne is moving closer to reality while a four-star complex in the same village has been sold for £18.53million.

The new hotel development is being scheduled to begin later this year, subject to planning permission, and will provide jobs and boost the night-time economy of Cambourne.

Developer NewCrest says it is in the final stages of discussions with potential operators of both the hotel and family pub.

John Vickery, clerk to Cambourne Parish Council, said the council was delighted by the proposed development for the 2.5-acre Cambourne Gateway site, which is at the entrance to the village.

Mr Vickery said: “We are supporting this as it will help finish off an area of the village which will give additional employment and more choices to go out in the evening and to stay. I understand NewCrest are close to agreements with operators for the hotel and pub and are updating their plans to submit
to planning.”

A spokesperson for NewCrest said: “The scheme comprises an 80-bed hotel and a family pub, both of which have secured leading operator-occupiers.

“A revised planning application is due to be submitted in mid-2017, with construction likely to commence later this year.”

The news comes hot on the heels of the sale of the Cambridge Belfry Hotel at Cambourne.

Purpose-built in 2004 and recently refurbished, the hotel comprises 120 bedrooms, along with extensive leisure and business facilities, indoor swimming pool, gym, conference facilities and meeting rooms, sauna, steam room and treatment rooms. The hotel attracts a mix of both leisure and business guests, visiting Cambridge itself and the surrounding areas.

Simon Lee, partner with new owners, LXi Reit Advisors Ltd, said: “We are pleased to have acquired the Cambridge Belfry Hotel.

“In addition to benefitting from a long, index-linked lease to a strong tenant covenant, the hotel trades strongly and is in a sought-after Cambridge location and purchase price.”

A QHotels spokesperson said the hotel is unaffected by the sale.

“We’d like to assure all of our customers that The Cambridge Belfry remains part of the QHotels Group and that the recent sale of the property will not affect any bookings or events at the hotel.

QHotels has always been a tenant of this property and has a long term lease in place. We look forward to continuing to provide the same exceptional levels of service to all of our guests for many years to come.”
