There was plenty of seasonal fun ‘n’ frolics, as well as Christmas fancy dress in abundance, as the Arthur Rank Hospice staged its annual fun run last weekend.

Since 2010 the hospice – which moved to its new home in Shelford Bottom in November 2016 – has raised more than £60,000 by organising the 5k run.

This year’s race took place on Sunday, November 26, and was sponsored by Ward Gethin Archer and The Cambridge Building Society.

Tasha Hills, senior events and marketing officer at Arthur Rank, told the Cambridge Independent: “We had 650 people register to take part in the event, which was more than we’ve ever had, and we sold out more than a month in advance.

“The day itself was great. We had lots of people getting involved with the fancy dress side of things and it was really nice to see everybody come together. We’re hoping that we’ll raise about £15,000.”

Tasha added: “We had fastest male, fastest female, fastest under-16 boy and girl, a team prize and fancy dress as well.”

The prize for best fancy dress went to Tony Read, who was dressed as a Christmas cracker.

“He was selected by the runners; all the participants shortlisted the best costumes and then cheered for their preferred winner,” said Tasha.

To supplement its NHS contribution, the charity is required to raise £2.85 million annually to fund the additional services provided by the hospice.
