A police car collided with a vehicle in Newmarket Road on Sunday, December 17, and continued to destroy the porch of a house.

No-one was seriously injured. The driver of the other vehicle, a red Toyota Yaris, was reportedly cut out of the car, which had crashed into trees, and was treated for minor injuries.

Police are now seeking witnesses to the incident.

Beryl Tingey, whose mother lives in the house that was hit by the police car, said her mother was out at the time. She returned to see the aftermath and said it took hours for the police car to be safely removed from the wall.

“It was bedlam,” she said. “I’ve never seen so many police officers in all my life.

“The police car ended up going into the side of the fence and she [the driver of the Toyota Yaris] went through the other side of the garden into the trees.

“The police car came across the garden and has done quite a lot of damage to the porch. The porch is a mess,” she added.

She is now in talks with her mother’s insurance company to get it fixed but said progress is slow because of the time of year.

“The car crashed through the masonry of the porch. It’s just fortunate that my mother wasn’t in at the time it happened.”

The police car was on call to an emergency when the collision occurred, reportedly around 8.20pm. Cambridgeshire police are to investigate the incident internally.

Anyone with information is asked to call Sgt Nick Ashton-Jones on 101 quoting incident 426 of December 17.
