A staple of summer life in Cambridge arrives on Midsummer Common tomorrow, Saturday June 3.

Returning for its 43rd year, Strawberry Fair is expected to attract up to 40,000 visitors.

The fair will officially open at 12pm, and the official theme is Fairy Tales, with all sorts of storybook-themed costumes and decorations expected.

A parade will take place through the city, starting at around 11am and featuring stilt walkers, street performers and music from Arco Iris, Cambridge’s only community samba band. It will arrive on the Village Green for the grand opening of the fair.

There will be an outside dancefloor, a fancy dress competition, performers, dance displays and music.

And as well as live music all day at the Kings Head and Rebel Arts Band Stand, there will be a host of musical performances across the site.

Strawberry Fair has always been a haven for music lovers, and there will be sets at the Wigwam, Pop Up, Cambridge 105, Buskers and Love Music Hate Racism stages, the Hatters’ Cafe, Scarecrow Corner, Green Machine, the newest music stage the Flying Pig and the indoor stage, the Portland Ballroom.

Scarecrow Corner is home to a range of community and social awareness stalls.

Eastern Bloco has an acoustic stage and will be showcasing some of the city’s more alternative artists, while there will be interactive theatre workships and activities.

The Wild Strawberries poetry and spoken word stage will feature poets, open-mic sessions and the chance to win a place in the Cambridge Regional Poetry Slam final.

There will be a dedicated Kids Park with entertainers, performers, story tellers, face painters and nursery, messy play and chill-out areas.
