Students are competing to create a logo that will be used on signs and branding for the 12 Cambridge Greenways schemes – with residents picking the winner.

More than 50 design students are working to create their vision of a logo and branding for the Greater Cambridge Partnership’s Greenways projects – which aim to provide high quality walking, cycling and equestrian routes connecting Cambridge to surround villages.

The students will pitch their creations to judges including GCP Executive Board members and a representative from the Cambridge Independent.

The judges will shortlist six designs which will be put to a public vote in December with the winning design used on all future branding for the Greenways project.

Cllr Francis Burkitt, chair of the Partnership’s Executive Board, said: “It has been great working with local communities over recent weeks to gather consensus and ideas about what people want from their Greenway.

“Residents have really taken an ownership of their area and we wanted to extend this to our branding. Being able to involve young people, who we hope this project will benefit greatly in the future, is an important and added benefit of this process.”

Abner Fraser, Head of the Visual Communications department at Cambridge Regional College, said: “This is an amazing opportunity for our students to gain invaluable experience working with a client on a truly exciting project.

“The students are very motivated by the prospect of having their work displayed across South Cambridgeshire and this will give them great prospects going forward in their careers.”

The Greenways aim to increase levels of cycling and walking, reduce congestion and help to improve the health of the Greater Cambridge population.
