Two fire crews from Cambridge were called to help rescue a cow after it became stuck in a muddy ditch.

Wearing drysuits, firefighters pulled the cow from the ditch in Coe Fen, by the Fen Causeway, using specialist rescue equipment and the city council’s tractor.

Station Commander Wayne Swales said: “It took a considerable amount of time just because of the position of the cow.

“Its legs were completely submerged and the mud was halfway up its body.”

Crews released the animal after two hours and returned to their station by 9.20pm last night (Monday, September 26).
