A newly-launched careers advice service is aiming to equip students with the skills and knowledge they need for life after education.

With many students keen to make a positive start this academic year, Form the Future CIC hope to relieve some of the stress and pressure with the launch of private careers advice service, Focus on Success.

The pressure to make life-changing decisions at a young age can be overwhelming, causing some teenagers to withdraw, act out or simply stop trying.

Non-executive director at Form the Future CIC, Jane Paterson-Todd, believes that young people are more likely to succeed if they are given sufficient support, guidance and stimulation.

She believes it is also important to work with them before they make the choices that directly affect their future, and not when they are already demotivated or disengaged.

By providing one-to-one guidance that is personalised to each student, Form the Future hope to catch those at risk at an opportune time in their life and equip them with the knowledge and skills they will need to better prepare them for life after education.

The Cambridge-based social enterprise has recently taken residence in a new city centre location at Allia in Norfolk Street, so that they are more conveniently placed to support young people in the community.

Debra Thorpe, careers advisor at Form the Future CIC, said: “I am absolutely delighted with our new office space, as we now have a dedicated room to offer face-to-face sessions.”

She added: “I work with clients to make sense of the options available to them and help them to follow a direction that will bring a fulfilling career.

“To do this, I use Morrisby, a careers aptitude assessment tool popular with independent schools, that identifies their strengths, motivators and passions and how they can use these to make the decisions that are right for them.”
