Plans for resident parking permits in four city neighbourhoods are being progressed by the county council and Greater Cambridge Partnership.

Following previous support from residents, statutory consultation is under way for resident parking zones in the Newnham and Coleridge West areas of the city.

A permit in Newnham would cost £52 per annum, and in Coleridge West would cost £64.50.

Residents in Victoria and Ascham, in the north east of the city, also have the opportunity to have their
say on proposed resident parking zones.

Both consultations continue until June 4.

Cllr Mathew Shuter, Cambridgeshire County Council’s chair of the highways and infrastructure committee, said: “If the proposed plans receive enough support to be implemented, they will give residents priority parking in their area while taking into account the needs of local businesses and community facilities.

“The road safety improvements that a residents parking scheme brings aims to reduce congestion, reduce air pollution, and generally improve the local environment for everyone.

“We realise that this could affect other road users, not just residents, so we welcome everyone’s views.”
