A three story building will replace demolished sports club

Plans for a 72-bed care home on the site of Fulbourn Sports and Social Club have been approved.

South Cambridgeshire District Council’s planning committee has given the green light for the proposal.

As part of the scheme the social club, which was originally set up for Fulbourn Hospital staff, will be demolished and moved to a new location off Old Drift.

The care home built on the site will have car and cycle parking, landscaping and access from The Drive. The bedrooms will be equipped with en-suite bathrooms designed for safety and accessibility while there will also be 24-hour on-site nursing care, a hairdresser’s, café and cinema.

The three-storey building will have 25 bedrooms on the ground floor, 31 on the first and 16 on the second.

A formal courtyard garden, sensory areas, paths around the building, external patio areas at ground floor and terraces at first-floor level are also planned.

Plans were also approved for the erection of a new social club and 10 flats on land off Fulbourn Old Drift.

The current social club is housed in a dated building which is reaching the end of its life. The new club will have a double-height hall area with kitchen and bar facilities, office, meeting room, WCs and storage.

The social club has about
500 members, providing activities such as bingo, darts, cribbage, folk music club, skittles, pool and snooker.
