The 45th Cambridge Beer Festival went down a treat with punters.

The first pints were poured at a packed evening session on Monday (May 21), and the drinks flowed on Jesus Green until Saturday (May 26) thanks to the team of volunteers behind the festival.

This year, the festival celebrated the 350th anniversary of the Newtonian reflecting telescope and raised money for young people’s bereavement charity Stars.

Organiser Anthony Cox, of the Cambridge and District Campaign for Real Ale (Camra), said: “We had over 200 beers, 90 ciders and beers from as far as Aberdeen.

“My favourite beer at the festival was Dave by Great Heck. It’s a beautiful beer.”

Stars stands for Supporting Young People Facing Grief. The charity helps young people who have lost a parent or another important person in their lives.

The charity provides confidential counselling for people up to the age of 25, Sessions can take place in the person’s school, college, GP surgery or at the charity’s own Den at its Trumpington offices.

Counsellors can help by listening and encouraging young people to express their painful emotions through creative play and work.

The Cambridge Winter Ale Festival, organised by the same team, will be held on November 14-17 at the University Social Club. The 46th Cambridge Beer Festival will run from May 20-25, 2019.
