A tag system will determine which bikes in CB1 need to be removed.
Bikes abandoned in the area around Cambridge central railway station will start to be removed by CB1 Estate Management.
A warning tag will be put on cycles “that appear abandoned”. If a bike gets seven tags (one put on each day) the bike will be removed. Removed bikes will be held for two weeks and then donated to charity.
The city council is supporting the scheme, which aims to tackle the “growing problem of abandoned bikes” in Station Square.
Sven Topel, CEO of CB1 developers Brookgate, said: “Abandoned bikes take up valuable cycle parking spaces and can present an obstacle and health and safety hazard to pedestrians, cyclists and other site users, as well as detracting from the overall physical quality and visual appearance of an area.”
Removed bikes can be recovered by contacting CB1 on 01223 653206.
