Cash reward offered to anyone who can help with information about the culprits

Police are appealing for information following thefts from two rooms within the Royal Cambridge Hotel last week.

Between about 8am and 6.45pm on Monday, January 30, unknown offenders entered a hotel room and stole a suitcase containing clothing and about 7,000 rupees which belonged to the occupant, a woman in her 40s.

This theft is being linked to a second one which took place in the neighbouring room at some point between the morning of Monday, January 2 and the evening of Thursday, February 2.

It wasn’t until Thursday evening that the victim, a woman in her 60s, realised a luggage bag was missing from the corner of her room. The bag contained about £100,000 worth of jewellery.

General manager at The Royal Cambridge Hotel, Stewart Rushton, said: “We are extremely sorry to have learnt of this reported theft and offer our full support to the victims.

“These are unprecedented incidents for The Royal Cambridge Hotel which has no reported incidents of crime to date. We do offer our guests a safe environment and provide CCTV and we are fully cooperating with the police in this investigation.”

Detective Sergeant Graham Newton said: “Both victims have been left distressed by these incidents therefore I am urging anyone with information to contact police.

“The victim of the jewellery theft is incredibly upset by what has happened and is offering a cash reward for any information which leads to the recovery of her jewellery.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101 quoting incident 511 of February 2, or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111 or via their online reporting system at www.crimestoppers-uk.org.
