Protest against Cambridgeshire children’s centre cuts

The fight to save some of the county’s children’s centres from closure looks set to continue with a protest on Sunday (February 4).
A group, which will include parents, educators and councillors from a range of political backgrounds, is calling for Cambridgeshire County Council to reverse its £900,000 cuts which withdraw funding from some centres and transforms others.
Nicky Shepard, of Abbey, who delivered a 4,000-strong petition against the cuts in October, said: “These cuts are turning out to be as damaging as we all feared. This is why we have convened a cross-party campaign group to try to stop them. Cambridgeshire’s need for early years support and children centres is increasing and so it is absurd to think while we have so much growth in the city and the surrounding area, we are cutting services to those who need it most.”
The protesters will meet at the Guildhall at 1pm.
