Bus service in place between Audley End and Cambridge

Trains in and out of Cambridge have been severely affected by power line damage.

Greater Anglia services between Cambridge and London Liverpool Street, have been hit by the power line problems with no trains able to run between Cambridge and Audley End in either direction.

This has been compounded by problems on the Great Northern service via Downham Market because of a fault with the signalling system.

A replacement bus service will be in operation between Audley End and Cambridge.

A spokesperson for Greater Anglia said: “Due to damage to the overhead electric wires between Whittlesford Parkway and Great Chesterford all lines are blocked.

“Train services running through these stations may be cancelled, delayed or terminated at and started back from Audley End. Disruption is expected until 16:00.

“Network Rail engineers are assessing damage to the overhead wires and trains are unable to run between Cambridge and Audley End, in both directions. The 05:17 Kings Lynn to London Liverpool Street was the first train affected by this problem.

“We are planning to run half hourly train shuttle between Audley End and London Liverpool Street, once resources are in place. We are planning to operate a Rail Replacement Bus service between Audley End and Cambridge. However, very limited bus resources will not be at Audley End until about 09:00.

“Great Northern Trains will accept valid Greater Anglia ticket holders on trains between Cambridge and London Kings Cross. Underground services are conveying passengers via any reasonable route until further notice. Arrangements have been made for Greater Anglia rail tickets to be accepted for these journeys.

“Crosscountry trains between Birmingham New Street and Stansted Airport, via Cambridge are also affected by this disruption.”
