Oliver and Olivia were the most popular names in the county for boys and girls in 2017.
The county council revealed the top five names chosen by parents for their offspring. The list for the boys included Harry, George, William and Joshua, while Amelia, Charlotte, Isla and Emily completed the girls’ list.
The council also released a list of the more unusual names registered last year. For boys this included Zebedee, Conn, Memphis, Fox, Aries, Atlas, Atticus, Texas, Salem, Avery, Layland, August, Link, Rogan, Orion, Shepard, Rye, Remzi, Phineas and Teal. And for girls: Sailor, Juniper, Armani, Amity, Ocean, Sage, Freedom, Vienna, Briar, Presley, Cosette, Harmony, Indira, Clemence, Everlea, Alba, Cassidy, Sorchia, Effely and Emree.
The council’s registration service manager, Louise Clover, said: “We always advise people to imagine their new baby as an adult when deciding a name, as something cute for a small baby may not work so well for an adult!
“It’s always interesting to register a new name, and we do sometimes see patterns depending on what’s popular in the media.”
