A JCB digger was used by four men in balaclavas to steal a cash machine from the Co-op store in Longstanton in the early hours of this morning.

The High Street is shut in both directions between Nelson Crescent and Lady Walk while officers deal with the incident, which happened around 4am on Tuesday morning.

A police spokesman said: “A JCB digger was used to remove the side of the building and take the cash machine. They then made off in a box van and an Audi RS. They are described as four men in balaclavas.”

No one was injured in the incident and police are not able to confirm at this stage how much money was in the cash machine.

Stagecoach has confirmed that its service 5 bus is unable to serve the Lady Walk stop due to the incident.
