His picture of 100m hurdler Sally Pearson earned him top prize
Paul Sanwell has beaten some of the top photographers in the world to land a global prize.
This image of Australian 100m hurdler Sally Pearson in the semi-finals at the IAAF World Championships won photograph of the year ahead of competition from the world’s top agencies, including Getty Images, at the IAAF Athletics Awards in Monaco.
Paul, right, used a Nikon D5 with a 300mm f2.8 lens and said: “I had in mind what I wanted to do, so I mounted my gimbal camera mount to the top of my monopod – tripods are not allowed to be used during the event. To steady it further I also took along a strap to tie the monopod to the railings where we trackside photographers were seated.”
