Toys R Us has gone into administration, putting jobs in Cambridge at risk.

Administrators have been appointed to begin to wind down the toy retailer following the failure to find a buyer.

They said Toys R Us stores, including the store at The Beehive Centre, will remain open until further notice.

Joint administrator Simon Thomas told reporters: “Whilst this process is likely to affect many Toys R Us staff, whether some or all of the stores will close remains to be decided.”

Electronics retailer Maplin, which has a store at the retail park as well as in St Andrew’s Street, has also filed for administration. It will also continue to trade throughout the process.

Maplin will now work with administrators PwC, who said it would “explore all opportunities to find a new owner”.
