Some of the world’s best bartenders will be tantalising tastebuds with their skills during this year’s Cambridge Cocktail Weekend.
Muddle & Mint, the events division of La Raza – in conjunction with Cambridge Live – has announced that the event is taking place at the Corn Exchange from August 25 to 27.
Launched last year, the weekend attracted more than 2,000 people to the Corn Exchange, which was packed with bars, cocktails, music and dancing – and this year promises to be bigger and better. There will be in excess of 50 cocktails on offer from more than 10 bars.
The main difference between this year and last year will be the inclusion of some of the world’s best bartenders competing in a grand slam event for the World Flair Association. Bartenders will be flying in from all over the globe to take part and provide audiences with an exciting spectacle of ‘flair bartending’ skills. The heats will take place on Friday and Saturday from 7pm to 9pm, with the final on Sunday evening.
“It’s a bit like a Formula One Grand Prix,” explained Charlie Anderson, the owner of La Raza. “There are seven grand slams across the world each year, and at each grand slam – like a Grand Prix – you win points. Then, at the end of the season, the world champion is crowned. This is the fifth of the seven events so it’s quite a coup for Cambridge – it’s the first time it’s been outside of London in the UK since I think 2007.”
He added: “The concept of the weekend is the daytime sessions
are more interactive and educational, so you can learn about what goes in cocktails, the methods of making them and do some yourself. There are also talks and presentations.”
Along with all the food and drink – culinary delights on offer this year come from Cambridge favourites Nanna Mexico along with Warm and Toastie, both of whom will have stands – there will once again be live music.
Headlining Friday night is Swagger, and Saturday night it’s Big Ten while The Indietones will perform on Sunday.
