Visitors had a roarsome time with Amba the tiger, who turned 18 years old.
It’s a wonderful milestone for Amba, who has made a remarkable recovery after having a tumor removed six years ago, but now she’s feline great and celebrated the occasion with visitors, park staff and special guests from Cambridge United.
This is the 12th year that Shepreth Wildlife Park has celebrated with Amba, whose birthday falls on August 4th, and her tiger partner, Rana.
Park director Rebecca Willers said: “Amba, our female tiger, has made it to 18 years old despite all the odds. It was touch and go whether she was going to make it six years ago when she had a six kilogram tumour removed from her abdomen.
“All the money raised from her birthday party tomorrow will go to saving tigers in the wild. To date we have donated over £48,000 to anti-poaching projects in Sumatra and other tiger range countries.”
There was a host of events including Mr Bean’s Magic Show and performances by the Young Actors Company and singer, Richard Wells.
A Wood Green tent was packed with essential feline information and enrichment ideas, plus face painting, tiger balloons, cakes, raffles, tiger tombolas, auctions and arts & crafts and ‘Ringo’ the Coati played an extra special ‘pass the parcel’ around the tiger enclosure.
