Students from The Centre School in Cottenham have been working at homelessness charity Wintercomfort every week providing a pop-up coffee shop.

The students’ coffee shop has been running at Wintercomfort’s Overstream House serving free fresh coffee, sandwiches and sometimes cakes.

Teacher Jamie Hampshire said: “Our students have worked really hard each week, I am very proud of their achievements.

“The project not only gives students relevant work experience, it also gives them an opportunity to give back to the community and develop empathy and compassion.”

Fundraiser Simon Pickering said: “We have been delighted to host the students while they have provided their cafe to our service users, as part of our work within the homeless sector we have a real interest to providing education and understanding on the complexity of homelessness.”

Student Reece Byliss also raised £800 for the charity after his work placement by completing a 10-mile run.

The money will pay for summer survival packs, containing t-shirts, underwear and toiletries.
