The councillors supported a petition with 155 signatures asking to reinstate school gritting routes to ensure the safety of children.

Councillors voted to back-pedal on their proposal to cut some secondary road-gritting routes at a meeting of the full council yesterday (Tuesday December 13).

Cambridgeshire County Council originally said that while road safety is a concern, due to the millions of pounds needed to be saved by the council, it could only afford to grit certain routes.

But members backed a motion to reinstate last year’s gritting routes.
