A kind-hearted schoolgirl from Histon raised almost £65 for East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH) by baking cakes and making decorations.

Eliza Low, nine, a pupil at Histon & Impington Junior school, sold 80 chocolate Rice Krispie cakes as well as 30 decorations she learnt how to make at Brownies at 40p each or three for £1.

She sold them to her neighbours who were told of the sale by flyers put through their letterboxes by Eliza, and her twin brother Joseph.

The twins previously held a toy sale at the end of their driveway to raise money for Blue Smile, a Cambridgeshire charity which provides counselling and support in schools to help children fulfil their potential.

Eliza’s mum, Kate, said: “All the neighbours were very impressed with their efforts and with Eliza’s kind idea, and were very generous.

“Her dad, Tom, suggested EACH [as the beneficiary], which she had not heard of before. We explained what the charity did and she decided that would be the perfect choice. She said ‘It would help very ill people and help them feel more comfortable in a way’.

“We are very proud of Eliza. She organised everything herself. She has a generous heart and is very thoughtful about others.”

Eliza, who also lives with big sister Evie, was thrilled to receive a certificate and chocolates when she dropped off her money at EACH in Milton.

EACH care for children and young people with life-threatening conditions across East Anglia and supports their families. For more information about the charity visit each.org.uk.
