We’re pleased to announce today’s launch of the Cambridge Independent, an exciting new title for the Cambridge region.

Intelligent, distinctive and relevant, our new weekly newspaper, website and forthcoming app will aim to provide the community with a fresh look at life in this fantastic area of the country.

Edward Iliffe, the chairman, said: “The structural changes and challenges for the traditional newspaper industry are well documented. But we strongly believe there is a demand for quality journalism, useful information and entertaining content published across multiple formats to local communities.”

This paid-for newspaper, published on Wednesdays, will be supported by a strong membership offer, which will give the reader a package of benefits – including free membership of the Gourmet Society, worth £69.95, for annual subscribers.

The title will contain a substantial Homes section, with property-focused editorial and advertising, supplemented on Thursdays by a standalone property newspaper, Cambridge Homes, available for free in the city and beyond.

The Cambridge Independent continues the long publishing heritage of the Iliffe family, which has owned, published and printed newspapers since the mid-1800s. The family has published in Cambridge since 1922 and now, through the creation of Iliffe Media Ltd, will continue to serve this articulate and entrepreneurial community.

Based at Iliffe Print, Cambridge, where the newspaper will be printed, the Iliffe Media team is also planning a range of specialist publications.

The experienced and talented editorial and commercial team within Iliffe Media very much look forward to engaging with the people of the Cambridge region – including those in its schools, colleges and universities, its business community, its local government, health facilities, sports clubs and local groups – in a positive way to promote and campaign for the continued success of this dynamic city.
