Club says it is still committed to Sawston.

Fans of Cambridge City Football Club will be disappointed to hear today that the club’s plans for a new stadium will go back to the drawing board after a High Court ruling.

An appeal made against planning permission to build the new stadium at a site in Sawston was upheld.

Cambridge City Football Club have said that they are committed to Sawston despite the setback.

A spokesperson for the club said: “Whilst the club accepts the judgement, it is clearly very disappointed with the outcome. The club wishes to state that the case has always been between a local resident and the District Council, and whilst this has been ongoing the club has continued to set out its plans to build a first class facility for the local community and the surrounding area.

“Given the verdict today, the club will now take time to review the status of the project and will now consult all relevant parties to evaluate its position so it can develop an appropriate way forward.”

The planned 3,000 seat stadium would provide a new home for the club, who are sharing a ground with St Ives Town FC.

The appeal against the development, which lies in the Green Belt and isn’t in the South Cambridgeshire development plan, was upheld as the planning committee of South Cambridgeshire District Council was in breach of a common law duty to provide reasons for its decision to grant planning permission for the development.
