A clean-up operation swung into action after thousands of blue plastic bags were shed from a lorry on the A428 near Cambourne.

The bags littered the roadside verges and the central reservation - and were blown along the A428 and A14 as least as far as Milton.

There was concern that they would cause a distraction from drivers and pose a danger to wildife.

Cambridgeshire police reported at 7.24am today (Thursday November 30) that an HGV had shed its load.

South Cambridgeshire District Council, Cambridgeshire Constabulary and highways officers have been working together for hours to collect the bags.
