Stagecoach East has become the first company to join our Rapid Scan Appeal to raise £100,000 for studies of pioneering scanning technology that could tell doctors within days if a cancer treatment is working.
The Cambridge Independent has teamed up with Cancer Research UK’s Cambridge Institute to pay for the research, which will be carried out at Addenbrooke’s. We are seeking support from companies and individuals.
Bus firm Stagecoach East is working with the county council to offer Park & Ride passengers a continental breakfast every Tuesday, at different sites, from 7.30-10.30am until December 19. The funds raised will be matched by the company up to a maximum of £1,500. It is hoped the initiative will raise £5,000.
Andy Campbell, managing director of Stagecoach East, said: “The Park & Ride breakfasts are a great opportunity to do something extra for our passengers and, at the same time, raise money for a very worthwhile cause.”
The study will assess how a new imaging technique could help guide oncologists assessing the effectiveness of cancer treatments in patients. Currently patients have to wait weeks, or event months, to find out if a treatment is working.
Laura Holland, of Cancer Research UK, said: “Not only will the breakfasts help to raise the profile of the campaign but also valuable funds towards such an amazing research project which is being trialled in Cambridge.”
