Within walking distance of Addenbrooke’s and excellent educational institutions such as The Perse and Hills Road Sixth Form College, Worts Causeway is superbly located and is where the attractive detached home of the Pitt family is located.

Tastefully presented and impressively well proportioned, this appealing, 1960s-built family house stands in the centre of a mature landscaped plot.

It has been extensively and skilfully renovated in recent years, which has resulted in a wonderful home flooded with light and space.

The four-bedroom property is on the market with Cambridge agent Carter Jonas for £1.1million.

Mr Pitt works in IT, from home and in London, and comes from Suffolk farming stock. He, his wife and their two young children have been living in Worts Causeway for three years, having previously resided on the other side of Cambridge, on Winter Road.

“It’s been a really tough choice because we’ve done a lot of work on the house,” he said of the decision to move. “It’s also a great location; we’ve got good schools nearby. We’ve got Addenbrooke’s and AstraZeneca coming, which is good for my line of work. So it’s been a tough decision based on what’s around here as well, and with what is potentially going to be happening with Cambridge.”

The family hope to move back to Suffolk and find another ‘fixer-upper’, partly to be closer to Mr Pitt’s parents, which will also help when it comes to childcare.

Elaborating on the work they have carried out on the property (it had been a while since it had been decorated – the bathroom was avocado, for example), Mr Pitt said: “When we purchased the house we didn’t actually move in until about six months later.

“The main focal point is the kitchen, and we’ve completely opened it up. There was a separate dining room, a separate, smaller kitchen and out the back there
was a utility room and a downstairs shower room. We basically ripped them all out and put in a brand new kitchen.

“We designed the house to suit the needs of a family. It’s open plan with the playroom so we can see what the kids are doing.

“I love cooking and it’s a very workable kitchen/cooking set-up with a good amount of space – and there’s a lot of light within the building.”

The family put in a new bathroom suite and replaced a small upstairs shower room with a laundry room, which makes sense as clothes do tend to be kept upstairs!

Doors were replaced throughout, rooms were redecorated and new carpets were added.

A large bay window area in the extended playroom exists where a conservatory once stood. In fact, the only room which has remained relatively untouched is the study, where our interview took place.

The house is surrounded by greenery. “We’ve done a lot in the garden,” said Mr Pitt. “We’ve removed a lot of borders just to create a landscaped grass area for kids to run around in. We’ve tidied up the patio and added extra features and things.”

He continued: “It’s a very good-sized house. If we were staying, our next venture would be adding a dressing room and en-suite bathroom to the master bedroom.”

Reflecting on what he’ll miss about the area, Mr Pitt concluded: “Worts Causeway’s a really lovely street, and Cambridge has so much to offer in terms of activities.

“We’ve got a good amount of friends here and I prefer this side of Cambridge to the other side where we were living before, because although you’re cycling distance from the town centre, it feels like you’re in the country as well. That’s quite good from my point of view because I come from a country background.”
