Kloeber UK Ltd was set up in September 2006 and launched at the Grand Designs Exhibition in Birmingham. Their range has progressed over the years to include doors, windows and roof lights in low maintenance thermally broken aluminium, timber and composite materials.
A move to larger premises came in 2011 and was followed by the 2012 launch of an extensive London showroom in Sunbury on Thames.
That year also saw Kloeber become the first company to be awarded Secured By Design status for timber folding sliding doors – also achieving this accolade for its FunkyFront doors.
The company moved to a larger new head office and showroom in Huntingdon in July 2016 to support their constant growth and to provide space for future expansion.
Matt Higgs, whose professional background is in timber-frame building and project and contracts management, is the sales director at Kloeber and is also a majority shareholder.
“The specification of our product range is quite high,” he said, “so where we sit in terms of the market is at an affordable price, but a high specification so it makes us quite popular with architects and specifiers, as well as with housebuilders, developers and homeowners.”
Matt continued: “Where we really come into our own with architects and developers is that we understand building. The management team in our company has a background in building, computer drafting and project management so we intimately understand the process.”
Orginally aimed at the domestic retail market, the company has started to branch out into all-encompassing new-builds of the type which are constantly popping up all over Cambridgeshire.
“We work on some of those, yes,” said Matt, “though our main clientele is private customers doing a self-built project.
“But we are working with Barratt Homes on the big Trumpington Meadows site in Cambridge and we’ve also worked with Countryside on a luxury development opposite Trumpington Meadows.
“There’s another big one coming up which we’re possibly in the running for as well.”
Matt, whose association with Kloeber began eight years ago when he was employed as technical manager by the previous owner, added: “There are a number of things that make us popular and make people want to work with us. It’s the overall package that we offer.
“First and foremost, it’s the good quality of products and the range of products that we do.
“Most door or window companies will specialise in a certain material; we do three different types of timber, we do composite – which is timber on the inside and aluminium on the outside.
“We do all types of different glazing – double glazing, triple glazing, solar-controlled glass, high-security glass. The sheer volume of product and different options means that we can really fit in with whatever anyone is trying to achieve, and our experience in the industry means we give a really good service.”
To conclude, Matt revealed what current trends are ‘in’ as far as doors are concerned: “Timber products are very popular at the moment because they offer strength and security and really good insulation.
“They’re popular with self-builders and developers because they see the benefit of spending a little bit more than your average front door, but getting real value out of it.
“They are often able to sell the house because of the ‘wow’ factor that you get from putting a really high-spec, well-engineered front door on it.”
