Unbeaten double header marks feat

Cambridge City have secured their highest points total in the Investec Women’s Hockey League, Conference East, with one game still to play.

City had a double header, against St Albans and Barnes, at the weekend.

Against St Albans, City had the majority of possession, finding gaps in the St Albans defence and moving the ball around nicely.

Two goals from Hannah De Selincourt and one each from Helen Richardson-Walsh, Miriam Marti-Palet, Heidi Baber and Jordan Homann earned them a 6-2 win.

There were some heavy legs from City against Barnes, and they were unable to create as many attacking opportunities.

They battled hard in the last 15 minutes to force a goal, with De Selincourt unable to finish a well-worked move, while keeper Polly Oakman made some good saves to keep a clean sheet as it finished 0-0, meaning City have their best finish in the division with 33 points.

Warren D’Souza and Scott Gilmour scored twice apiece as Cambridge City drew 4-4 with Richmond in the first of a weekend double header in the Men’s Hockey League, Conference East.

Brennan Alexander Parker was then on target in a 2-1 defeat to Southgate.
