Duo ease to latter stages of competition

Cambridge City and Cambridge United both made comfortable progress to the semi-finals of the Cambridgeshire Women’s Invitation Cup.

Facing Histon at home, City made the perfect start by opening the scoring after just 17 seconds through Bella Simmons.

Charlotte Gillies latched on to a defensive mistake to slot home the second.

Carla Penny got the third with a curling effort into the top corner, and it was 4-0 by half time through an own goal.

After the break, Simmons grabbed her second of the game and Bronte Rapley smashed a first-time shot from distance in off the bar.

Simmons completed her hat-trick to finish City’s win.

United made it through to the last four with a 12-0 win at Wisbech St Mary.

Faith Hewitt smashed four goals, Laura Baker hit a hat-trick, Charlotte Crisp and Laura Bright bagged braces and Teonie Peyton and Carolyn Sarafian got one apiece.

In the S-Tech Women’s League, Premiership, a backlog of fixtures meant Cambridge City Development had a double header against Park Ladies.

Ellie Cullum fired four goals and Rachel Pearce got one in the first match as City triumphed 5-1, and it was the same score in the second game, with Cullum getting two and Rachel Littlewood, Amy Ozakpinar and Erin Fox getting one apiece.

In the S-Tech Girls’ League, Katie Stancombe fired a hat-trick, Alex Smith and player-of-the-match Anna Kanz grabbed two goals apiece and Mo Want got one as Cambridge City under-17s beat Histon Hornets 8-1.

City under-13 A won 15-0 against Netherton United.
