Lilywhites to stay on at Westwood Road

Cambridge City have announced that they have extended their groundshare agreement with St Ives Town for a further year.

The Lilywhites have been based at Westwood Road for the last two seasons, having previously shared with Histon for two seasons after leaving their Milton Road home in the summer of 2013.

The new arrangement with St Ives also has an option to extend in the future.

“Everyone at St Ives has been very good to us over the last two years and we have an excellent relationship with them,” said City chairman Kevin Satchell.

“I am delighted that this will continue for next season. That said, I do understand the difficulties some of our fans have getting to our home games.

“However, St Ives is currently the only viable option open to us so we will remain at Westwood Road whilst we continue in our quest to relocate to a permanent home.”

That permanent home is hoped to be at Sawston, but their plans for the new stadium suffered a recent legal setback at the High Court.

However, Satchell explained that the club are still committed to relocating to Sawston.

“I know that the whole situation is very frustrating for everyone connected with the club,” he said.

“However, I want to re-assure our supporters that we are working hard behind the scenes to move forward with the project and get it back on track as we all want Cambridge City playing in their own stadium sooner rather than later.”
