Lilywhites make progress in FA Trophy

Cambridge City have issued an update on their Sawston stadium development plans.

The Lilywhites made a pledge to keep supporters informed each step of the way, and they have provided insight into the grant process.

After a meeting with a consultant specialising in assisting with grant applications for sporting developments, it is felt the total amount the club could apply for would be in the low-to-medium six figures.

Discussions will be continuing with the stadium project managers and the consultant, and City’s stadium project manager Terry Dunn said: “These are very significant sums of money the club is looking to access, representing a fair proportion of the total cost of the stadium.

“The grants are likely to cover a number of smaller items on the stadium build, rather than being used to fund the entire development.

“Obviously a body awarding grants of the values we have been talking about will require multiple quotes for the work being carried out, and paperwork being supplied to them well in advance of those phases of the work being started.

“We will work closely with our project management team to ensure these grants are applied for at the appropriate time.

“Fans should be reassured that even though building work hasn’t started, there is a lot of activity behind the scenes to ensure the new stadium will be one we can all be proud of.”

On the pitch, it was another encouraging weekend for City.

They made the trip to Peterborough Sports in the FA Trophy, preliminary round and Josh Oyinsan was on song again, grabbing two goals following his hat-trick the previous week.

Substitute Jordan Gent and James Hall were also on target, with City now at home to Basford United on October 27 in the first round.

City are back in Evo-Stik League South, Division One Central action this Saturday when they travel to North Leigh, who are second from bottom in the table.
