Success for under-13s at national event

Cambridge City girls’ under-13s are national champions after winning the Aces tournament.

The Lilywhites had teams in two age groups competing in Nottingham in the invitational event for boys and girls who have won their league or league cup.

The under-15s had mixed fortunes, putting in some good displays in the hot weather, but they were drawn in a strong group and were unlucky not to progress to the quarter-finals.

Manager Sheridan Henry and assistant Danny Want guided the under-13s to the double this season, and their success continued as they qualified from the group stages.

City faced Nottingham in the last eight, and their pace and technical ability proved too much for their Midlands opponents as they ran out 4-0 winners.

They defeated Rotherham 2-0 in the semi-final to progress to the final to face Norwich, who had beaten them 1-0 in the group.

Keeper Grace Joslin made a couple of good saves, but otherwise it was all City, and a brace from Rosie Mead sealed a 2-0 win to see them crowned national champions.

There was further success for City teams on a more regional level, with the under-11s beating hosts Haverhill 2-0 in the Haverhill Girls’ Summer Tournament final.

And City’s under-10s won all their games without conceding a goal to clinch the Royston Town Youth Girls’ Tournament.
