City make winning debut

Grace Stanley fired Cambridge City Ladies’ to victory in their first game in the Women’s FA Cup.

They took on Peterborough United Ladies, and nothing could separate the sides at half time.

But the breakthrough was made in the 65th minute when Stanley raced through to slot home from close range, and they nearly doubled the lead when Stacey Fullicks smashed a shot against the post.

Emily Bevens had a good game in goal for City, making a number of crucial saves to help put her side into the next round, where they will face Northampton Town away on October 9.

City’s development earned a 6-0 win over Fulbourn Institute Bluebirds in the S-Tech Women’s League, Championship South.

Philippa Witherspoon scored twice and Erin Walusimbi, Issy Broadbent, Saskia Capetti and Ellie Geoghan got one apiece.
