Win over Priory
Megan Tonks was at the double for Cambridge City under-16s as they beat Priory Parkside 3-1 in S-Tech Girls’ League, Division 16A.
It was a slow start to the match for both sides, with Parkside proving to be a different type of side to that previously faced by City.
But the visitors kept the ball moving and were rewarded when Tonks opened the scoring with a long shot.
Priory were determined to get an equaliser and were forcing keeper Jenny Jamieson into a number of saves before the break.
They did however bring things level after half time.
City stepped up a gear and they got a second goal through Lizzy Wray, who produced a great finish.
Tonks completed the win with a header, while Jamieson was named City’s player of the match.
Annabel Cuthbert scored four goals for Cambridge City under-14s as they won 6-4 against Yaxley in Division 14A.
It proved to be a great match for the neutral, with plenty of excitement for both teams as City had the upper hand in the first half.
But the second period was more of a rollercoaster for the visitors, however they were able to grab the win to remain top of the league.
Cuthbert’s quartet was added to by two goals from player of the match Freya Standing.
There was not quite such good news for Cambridge City under-12s as they were beaten 5-1 by Coton Crusaders in Division 12A.
City did actually take the lead with a lovely passing move finished off by Madison Shantzs but it turned out to be their only goal.
Coton proved to be a very good team with one player scoring all five of their goals,as City were not quite on top form and fell to their first defeat of the season.
Iris Djan was named City’s player of the match.
