Robbie Nightingale has praised his Cambridge City squad as they head into the Christmas period on the back of two successive wins.

Since Nightingale arrived at City they have won two games and seen a third abandoned late on while leading 2-1 at Cinderford.

Their latest victory in the Evo-Stik League Southern, Premier Division came at home Cirencester Town last Saturday, when Charlie Woolfe scored twice in a 2-1 triumph.

“It was a very good win,” said Nightingale. “It was probably our poorest performance of the three that we’ve had so far.

“We didn’t start particularly well but with the two lads out wide and the two lads up front you’re always in the game because of the pace of those four.”

There has been a big turnover in playing staff, and Nightingale has been impressed by the way players new and old have adapted to his methods.

“The team have worked incredibly hard since we came in and have brought into everything we have asked and we’re getting our rewards at the moment,” said Nightingale.

“We’re on the right path and if we continue to work hard and be hard to breakdown then hopefully results will be kind to us and we will stay up.”

City are clawing back the deficit on those above them in the table, and Nightingale said: “We’re now six points off the group just outside the relegation places so we have made some good progress but we still need to make a lot more.

“We’re in a good place at the moment and confidence is high.

“It should be three wins, it’s not but we take great heart from all three performances.”

City face landfords St Ives Town on Boxing Day at 1pm.
