Bronze medal clinched at Crystal Palace
Cambridge & Coleridge AC’s senior men’s team have achieved their best result in the South Eastern Road Relays in 41 years at Crystal Palace.
In a field of 78 teams, the six-strong C&C squad earned the bronze medal.
Jonathan Escalante-Phillips gave them a strong start, and 17-year-old Thomas Keen took the baton to give C&C the lead.
Lloyd Kempson, Jack Grey and Chris Darling fought hard to hold off the chasing pack, but they were passed by traditional powerhouses Tonbridge and Aldershot.
Norman Shreeve ran a well-placed last leg to hold off the charge from Hercules Wimbledon and Southampton to seal third spot for the first time since 1977.
C&C’s senior women’s team were just outside the medals in fourth.
There was a gold medal for the under-13 boys’ team of Isaac Morris, Lewis Buchallet, Matt Smith and Luca McGrath, who will be joined at the National Road Relays at Birmingham’s Sutton Park on October 6 by the senior men’s B team after they finished 15th.
