Cambridge & Coleridge athletes on song at county championships

Competitors just shy of half a century of gold medals

Cambridge & Coleridge Athletics Club had a profitable time at the Cambs AA County Championships in Peterborough.

The club’s athletes won 49 gold medals and 37 silvers, while they also had three athletes set championship best performances.

Adam Cross broke the under-17 men’s 200m record that had stood since 1988, running 22.12sec to take gold.

Thomas Keen beat a 15-year-old record in the under-17 men’s 1,500m, running 4min 2.42sec.

Isaac Morris also set a championship best, clocking 4.47.83 in the under-13 boys’ 1,500m.

A number of athletes won multiple medals.

Samuel Clarke won the under-20 men’s 400m hurdles and 110m hurdles and silvers in the javelin and triple jump.

Jess Fox won gold in the long jump and 100m, and silver in the 200m.

And Stephanie Browne (under-15 girls), Ben Shackleton (under-17 men’s) and Aedan Slack (senior) each won three medals in the heavy throws events.

Cambridge & Coleridge had an almost whitewash of the age group sections.

They won eight of the 10 categories, which were the under-13 boys, under-15 girls and boys, under-17 men, under-20 women and men, and the senior men and women.

In the schools’ section of the competition, King’s School Peterborough were the winners.

They scored 175 points, with The Leys School second with 66 and the Perse School third with 64.
