Club make great start to East Women’s League campaign

Cambridge South are flying high in the East Women’s League.

Three of their four sides currently top their respective divisions.

South were top of Division 2NW ahead of their derby with Cambridge Nomads, and they set their stall out to retain their place by going 3-0 up in the first half thanks to an individual goal from skipper Kim Cooil and one each from Alison Small and Hannah Kenyon.

Robyn Murray scored South’s fourth, with Sarah Warren getting a consolation for Nomads.

South II climbed to the top of Division 4NW (S) after a 6-0 win over Nomads II. A back-post deflection from Eimear Lee put South 1-0 up in the first minute, and she went on to complete a first-half hat-trick.

Izzy MacDonald Parry scored either side of the break and Katherine Hueston was also on target.

South III won their 5NW (S) top-of-the-table clash with St Neots IV 6-1 to leapfrog their rivals into first place.

Dani Arnold put them in front from a penalty corner, but St Neots soon equalised. Lucy Davidson and Jess Woodhouse scored to make it 3-1 at half time. Davidson grabbed three more goals to complete the victory.

Newly-formed South IV scored their first competitive goal in a 2-1 defeat to Huntingdon II in 5NW (S).

Emily Stevenson achieved the landmark, equalising in the first half, but Huntingdon got a winner despite the persistent play of South player-of-the-match Charlotte Wilson.

Cambridge City lost 2-0 at Sevenoaks in Investec Women’s Hockey League, Conference East.
