Victory over Horncastle brings good finale

Izzy MacDonald-Parry struck as Cambridge South finished their East Women’s League, Division 3NW championship-winning season with a 3-1 victory over Horncastle.

After a goalless first half, Kim Cooil scored a penalty corner to break the deadlock and then MacDonald-Parry struck from open play and then a penalty stroke to make it 3-0.

Horncastle pulled back a goal through a deflected penalty corner but South held their own for the last 10 minutes to seal the win.

Annie Mather scored for Cambridge Nomads in their 5-1 defeat to Spalding in 2NW.

Kendra Seed smashed five goals as Cambridge South II won 12-0 against Newmarket IV in 4NW (S).

It earned Seed the player-of-the-match award, with Lauren Brown contributing a hat-trick and Meg Barne, Dani Kilsby-Steele, Katherine Hueston and Katie Gibson getting one apiece to complete the scoring.

Cambridge South III earned their third win of the season, beating Newmarket III 2-1.

Rosie Earwaker got the opening goal as South created numerous chances in the first half, but it stayed 1-0 at the break.

Emily Stevenson got the second goal, and despite Newmarket quickly cutting the deficit, strong defence and some good goalkeeping from Lydia Critchley clinched South’s victory.

Cambridge Nomads II earned a 14-0 win over Ely City III.
