U’s boss weighs up forward decisions

Shaun Derry is weighing up his attacking options for Cambridge United’s clash with Crawley Town tomorrow (Saturday).

With Barry Corr, Uche Ikpeazu and Adam McGurk all ruled out through injury, it brings Medy Elito, Ben Williamson and Gerry McDonagh into the equation to start up front.

And one option is to go with two central strikers, but that could make a difference on the impact of Luke Berry, who has excelled this season and been in fine goal-scoring form.

“What we’ve got to look at is the clear fact of the matter that we’ve got a midfielder who plays his best football in a three,” said United manager Derry.

“Our most attack-minded, potent forward player is Luke Berry so we have to get the most out of him.

“To enable Luke Berry to continue this vein of form that he’s been on since I’ve been at the club, his best position is in a three-man midfield so to go and sacrifice that for the sake of playing two centre forwards is a talking point without a doubt.

“It’s something I’ve been thinking about all week, but whether we’re going to see that on Saturday, you’ll have to wait and see because I have to look at the bigger picture and see where our main goal threat is going to thrive.”
