Striker’s two-year stint at the U’s comes to an end
Barry Corr has been released by Cambridge United.
The 32-year-old striker’s contract finished at the end of last season, but after an injury-blighted last 18 months, the U’s gave him the opportunity to prove his fitness.
Corr signed in 2015 but was only able to make 29 appearances, scoring 14 goals, because of injuries.
However, it has now been confirmed that he has been released by the club.
Cambridge United head coach Shaun Derry said: “We would like to thank Barry for his true professionalism in what has been a very troublesome 18-month period as a result of his injuries.
“It has been a frustrating situation for both parties and this has by no means been an easy decision to make for the football club.
“It goes without saying that we wish Barry the best of luck for the future.”
Ben Strang, United’s head of football operations, said: “We wanted to give the process of Barry’s recovery sufficient time to be well informed in our decision on Barry’s future.
“Barry is a fantastic professional that has always tried to do everything he could to get on the pitch for Cambridge United.
“His work ethic is second to none. He has been hugely respected and well-liked by supporters, players and staff alike during his two years with the club.”
The U’s thanked Corr and wished him all the best for his continued recovery and future endeavours.
