U’s move to within two points of top seven

Cambridge United have moved to within two points of the Sky Bet League Two play-off places with a 3-0 win over Leyton Orient.

United took control from the off against the division’s bottom club, but they had to wait until the half-hour mark to take the lead, with Luke Berry heading in Harrison Dunk’s cross at the far post.

Keeper Will Norris was called upon to deny Orient’s Richard Liburd with a fine save, and United extended their lead in the 41st minute when George Maris’ free kick was glanced in for a first goal for the club by Liam O’Neil.

Dunk hit the post at the start of the second half, but the U’s had a third when Maris finished off inside the Orient area.

The victory moves United to just two points below Exeter and Carlisle, who are in sixth and seventh in the table respectively, with five matches remaining.

The U’s next game is away to Grimsby Town on Good Friday, with Exeter the visitors to the Cambs Glass Stadium on Bank Holiday Monday.
