U’s want more of the same against the Grecians

Cambridge United will be eager to upset Exeter City’s challenge for promotion from Sky Bet League Two on Saturday (April 7).

The Grecians are fourth in the table, one place and five points off Wycombe Wanderers, who occupy the final automatic promotion place.

But Paul Tisdale’s men have a game in hand of their rivals, so will arrive at the Abbey Stadium keen not to lose pace on those above them in the table.

United interim head coach Joe Dunne was full of praise for his opposite number, but hopes that his side can continue where they left off in their last home game, a 3-1 win over Crawley Town on Easter Monday.

“From a managerial point of view, Paul has done exceptionally well with Exeter,” said Dunne.

“They do well every year and they either get promoted or get close to it; again, this year is the same.

“They have an identity and they have a brand which is well respected in the game, as well as Paul is respected in the game.

“We want to make it a difficult game for them. It’s important for them and still big points for them to play for, automatic [promotion] is still in reach so they come to the game with that; I wouldn’t call it pressure because they have dealt with it for many years.”

A repeat of the Crawley performance would be the perfect tonic for Dunne, who has anticipating a good match.

“We just have to continue to try to build what we’re trying to look towards and that’s what we will be looking for from the players – that energy, that enthusiasm, that willingness, that quality,” he said.

“If both teams get it right on the day, I think it will be a really good game. I think it has the potential to be a really exciting game, and that’s what we want.”
