Good news for U’s on and off the pitch
Cambridge United have had double cause for cheer, with good news on and off the pitch.
They stepped up their chase for a play-off place with a 3-0 win over Leyton Orient at the Cambs Glass Stadium last Saturday, with goals from Luke Berry, Liam O’Neil and George Maris.
The victory, coupled with defeats for Exeter City and Carlisle United, has seen the U’s move to within two points of the play-off places, with five matches remaining.
Next up is the Easter weekend double header of Grimsby, away on Good Friday, and Exeter at the Cambs Glass Stadium on Bank Holiday Monday.
And off the pitch, defender Greg Taylor has extended his contract to the end of the 2017/18 season.
Taylor, 27, joined the U’s in 2013, and has proved an invaluable member of the squad, playing at lef-back, centre-back and central midfield this season.
He has made more than 130 appearances for United, and scored his first two goals this season, against Crawley and Crewe respectively.
United manager Shaun Derry said: “Reliable players are what managers are always searching for.
“In Greg we definitely have a player that is fully committed to this football club in every way.
“This contract extension represents our commitment to him which he very much deserves and I look forward to continuing our working relationship.”
