Roy Turnham and Jeremy Walton shine under the spotlight

Football is the chosen discipline in the Cambridge United Sport in the Community Awards this month.

The awards see United and the Cambridge Independent partnering to celebrate the benefits of sport participation and recognise the efforts of local people and organisations in providing access to sport in the community.

A different sport features each month to highlight the efforts of two individuals, with this month being football. And each month a grassroots football club, school, company and disability sport group will be selected to recognise their impact on local sport.

The star of the month is Roy Turnham and the champion of the month is Jeremy Walton.

New Cambridge United Community Trust manager Ben Szreter said: “We are finding that so many candidates come forward each month for so many of the awards.

“It is the reason that we launched these awards, to dig deep into sports to champion the hard work that goes on under the surface.

“While we may always notice the top end of sport, it is vital that the contribution all the way through, starting at grassroots, is heralded as well.

“Roy and Jeremy are worthy winners of the feature spots this month,
for their many efforts in taking football forward to different audiences in their own ways.”

Award winners:

Star of the month – Roy Turnham

Champion of the month – Jeremy Walton

School of the month – Fulbourn Primary School

Disability sport group of the month – Cambs Deaf Association
