Midfielder back in training
George Maris is back in training with Cambridge United.
The 20-year-old midfielder moved to the Cambs Glass Stadium from Barnsley in the summer, and made a good impression during pre-season.
But Maris sustained a thigh injury in the third game of the season, against Colchester, and after that ailment he picked up an ankle problem.
“George Maris has now made a welcome return to training and he will be looking to have a full week to two weeks before we can see him back within the first team set-up,” said U’s manager Shaun Derry.
“It’s been hard for George. He came in and had a good pre-season, scored a few goals and I thought he played really well in the League Cup against Sheffield Wednesday, when he came on and made the difference.
“Then suddenly he gets himself injured halfway into the Colchester game and we’ve not seen him since.
“George is a young player that needs to make sure that he gets his training time right. We need to see him on the training field first and foremost before we see him on a match day.”
